Removed potential asbestos floor tiles by mistake

Hi there, i recently found out that i may have removed some asbestos floor tiles in 2016 by mistake and am now worried sick about the risks. I lifted laminate flooring in my 1950s house in my hallway 1m x 3m. It uncovered broken black 6x6 tiles. A lot were already missing but i prized up the ones that were left and they cracked and quite a lot of dust was created. I wouldn't say they were vinyl, reminded me more of slate or clay. I had no idea of the risk and i swept up, hoovered and opened the front door to clear the dustiness. I had a new lino floot layed and thought nothing more about it until i read something recently about asbestos in old floor tiles and now i'm panicking about the risk i've put myself and my family at. Would be really grateful for any advice about the potential risk if they did contain asbestos?

Many thanks

Lislou

  • hello Lislou,

l think you just have to consider those workers involved in the manufacture of these products.Their exposure was over a working lifetime, and you never heard of problems arising from exposure over a short period,so obviously the effects are cumaltive.over an extnsive period .l do not think that what you describe should give you any sleepless nights,

  • Hi David,

Thanks you so much for your message. It's hard sometimes to get things in perspective and your mind can run away with you, especially with the mixture of information online. I think part of my concern was that did the exposure then become cumulative as it may have lingered in the air for a period afterwards. I really appreciate your advice.

    Thanks
