Struggled to get a biopsy

Hello!
I've just joined. I found a large lump on my right breast a couple of weeks ago and went to my gp. Got an appointment at the breast clinic a week later and was told that they thought it was just fatty tissue and they couldn't feel anything clinically worrying at all but would give me a scan just for my peace of mind. On the scan they found a small lump that couldn't be felt from the outside on where I thought the lump was (but what I felt wasn't what they seen on the scan if that makes sense!?). The person doing the scan said she was sure it was a fibroadenoma but wanted to take a biopsy just to be sure, she told me she wasn't worried at all. Anyway, this was yesterday and I'm a little traumatised from my appointment! I know that sounds a bit dramatic but just wanted to hear if anyone else had similar... they really struggled to get a sample! They ended up having to try 6 times, they said that it kept moving away when they tried to take the biopsy, did this happen to anyone else - feeling a little sore and sorry for myself today! Was told I would have the results back in a week or 2..

  • Hello Amyl222 and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

You did the right thing to go to your GP to get this lumped checked and I am glad they gave you a scan and reassured you it was likely to just be a fibroadenoma. How stressful it must have been for you that they struggled to get a sample! It's good that they managed to get there in the end and I hope that you are feeling less sore now.

The wait for results is always an anxious time as many of our members will know only too well. Try not to worry too much if you can especially as they didn't seem very concerned and keep well away from the temptation of looking things up online. There are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

It won't be long now until you get some definite answers and I am keeping everything crossed for you that it is confirmed to be a fibroadenoma.

    Best wishes,
