Confused

5 years ago I thought I had blood in my urine. I was referred to urology who did the camera and urine tests and said not. For 4 years I have been seeing the gyny culminating in an ablation last week. Now we have found the problem lies with my bladder and there is blood there. I am seeing the urologist tomorrow. I have no back pain no soreness in bladder. Has anyone else experienced similar? And what was the outcome?

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Lottie although I'm sorry that blood has been found in your bladder.

I know this must be quite scary and as you've said in your post, confusing too, but I hope the urologist was able to explain what's going on and clear this up for you.

Hopefully some of our members will be along soon to share their experiences and advice but if there is anything you're unsure of or forgot to ask the urologist then do give our cancer nurses a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and will do all they can to support you and put your mind at ease.

    Kind regards,

  • My wife had something similar to this for years. She eventually got referred to a urologist, where they found blood in her bladder. She was always getting cystitis, but more often than not, no infection ever showed up.

Weirdly, after having her bladder expanded during the investigative urology app, her symptoms disappeared for well over a year. Supposedly this is quite common for some reason. you'd think an invasive procedure would make things worse, but it tends to settle the issue.

Yeah, to my point, nothing serious was found and she needed to go on a low dose, long-term course of antibiotics. It still comes back periodically, but since she's went through treatment for a totally unrelated cancer, it has all ceased again.

  • Thank you for your response, it has set my mind at ease.
