Positive FIT test

I have just received results from FIT test of 66 and urgently referred. All bloods are normal. I'm really scared. Suffered with constipation all my life. Anyone with similar symptoms/results? I'm 40 year old female

  • Hi that sounds really awful that you've had constipation all your life.

I remember being really scared when I found out I had a positive FIT test. Mine was over 400 but I believe the numbers just mean how much blood is in your poo. Were you seeing blood?

My blood tests were normal as well so that's a good sign.

Just a warning that the 'urgent referral' might take a while. I was told that I was going to be urgently referred in April but I still haven't heard back. I called them when 2 weeks had passed and they said it could take up to 5 months.

In the meantime, keep a diary of your symptoms and keep your gp updated incase they want to speed up the referral.

  • I think 66 equates to over 600. There is no visible blood when I go the toilet. I'm hoping it's polyps or haemorrhoids. Do you mind me asking what was your diagnosis?

I have some right sided stomach pain but in my upper abdomen.

    thanks

  • Hi hopefully it isn't something serious. I have read that only 10% of people who are referred this way end up having cancer. But it is good to know that we are going to be referred and have tests done to rule out cancer.

I haven't had a diagnosis yet as I am still waiting to be referred. I was told in my rectal exam that there were no piles or anything so she thinks the problem must be internal. I used to see lots of blood in my poo in March and April. It started very suddenly but thankfully I don't see much blood anymore. I saw a little bit of blood when I did the FIT test so thought it will likely be positive.

  • Hope everything turns out fine for both of us

  • Thank you. I hope everything turns out okay for both of us aswell. How are you doing now?

If the waiting list takes a while, it does help to contact GP if you have new symptoms.

I called a few times and a lot of them would just say to wait. But on Wednesday, one doctor (the one who referred me in the first place) was very helpful.

I told her the same thing that I told other doctors (lost weight and lost bladder and bowel control since June) and she said that she's going to refer me on the 2ww pathway and said that it's unlikely to be cancer as I am young, but best to rule it out quickly as she doesn't want me to continue losing weight. I'm so relieved.
