HPV CIN3 severe fast changing?

Hi all,

So back story (brief as possible) I had my regular screening back in November 21, came back low grade changes, referred to colcospocy, on the day of my app I tested positive for covid rang up to rearrange. Gave me an app for NYE then 2 days later another letter cancelling that app but no new one in place.

Come mid January I rang asking what was happening and was told I failed to attend my appointment shown them the letter via email and was told they rearranged it for 23rd December. Seen as I "failed to attend 2 apps" I was referred back to my GP for another screening in March. I attended this and had to wait from March till 15th June for results, which had now gone to CIN 3 moderate. Had colcospocy on June 21st where I was told it was CIN3 severe. I would need LLETZ under general anasthetic due to the size of the area covered and the positioning, she said would be very dangerous to do it under local. Anyway I was going on holiday on 27th so she said she was happy to wait till I return to do biopsy as I wouldn't be able to swim if she did it.

App was made for 14th only to get a phone call asking could I go in on the 12th instead. Again I said this was fine. I've had a call Monday cancelling my app again as the lady who is doing it is off sick and doesn't know when she will be back.

My thing now is I'm really worried, if the CIN changes have progressed this quickly, are there chances that this could go from pre to cancerous in a short time too?

Has anyone else experienced this? TIA

  • Hello AnxiousMummy1

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some cervical cell changes and that multiple appointments you've been given by the hospital have been cancelled. It's understandable that you're concerned given the delays you've now experienced through no fault of your own.

In the first instance, I'd suggest speaking with the hospital's PALS department. It's their role to provide a point of contact for patients and help resolve concerns or problems when you're using the NHS. I'd also get in touch with your GP and update them on what's happening. It may be that they're able to get in touch with the hospital as well.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any information and support that they can.

I do hope that you're able to get this appointment sorted and that things can be resolved for you quickly.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you so much for replying.

I have planned on contacting occupational health as well as I work for the NHS myself (different department) but for some reason didn't think of PALS ‍♀️

I did think I would give it until tuesday/Wednesday next week as by then it would have been a week since cancelled appointment.

It just worries me as I've been informed that although the nurse doing my colcospocy said treatment needed 100% that I would still have to await biopsy results before treatment and that is around a 6 week wait at the moment, that would be a total of 9 weeks since being told severe changes in such a short amount of time. What else could change in that 9 weeks? And 9 weeks is as it stands now, without an appointment in place.

I've seen my closest friend go through cervical cancer twice, just short of 10 years apart, after being told the 1st time nothing will ever come back as her cervix is dead. So as you can imagine under the same hospital its giving me massive concerns.

  • So an update, I've rang today to chase my app and I've just been told that I'm on the 2 week pathway my app shouldn't have been cancelled I'm going for biopsy tomorrow.

What does this mean? Is it because of the high grade changes or do they suspect cervical cancer?

    I feel sick

  • Hey Anxiousmummy1,

We can't answer these questions I'm afraid but our cancer nurses may be able to help so if you'd like to get their thoughts on this do give them a call on the number Moderator Jenn gave you in her post.

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful but we're all thinking of you and wishing you all the best with your appointment tomorrow.

    Kind regards,
