Indentation on my aureola…

A few months ago I noticed a slight indentation on my aureola on my left breast, I didn't think much of it but then it became a little more noticeable and kept catching my eye in the mirror etc so I decided to get it checked out.  I have lumpy breasts and try and tend not to panic now if I find a lump.  So I managed to get a GP appointment this morning and he felt around and under my arm pit etc. I honestly wasn't worried as both times before everything was fine.  I'm still trying not to worry too much but he told me to take someone to the clinic with me and that I would get a mammogram, ultrasound and a biopsy.  He also said he found significant swelling under my arm and in my breast.  I know he's trying to not panic me but I'm telling me that he's panicked me.  Hopefully it's a quick referral and I get seen to quickly.  If anyones had something similar I would be grateful to hear about it. Thank you x

  • Hello!

I am like you. Got lumpy boobs. Been to the breast clinic multiple times over the years. I have a fibrodenoma and multiple cysts.

Another large lump appeared about 5/6 weeks ago. Like you, i have done this rodeo many times, so decided to just see how it went. Anyway, went the GP yesterday and he has put the fear of god into me! Said the lump is tethered to something and pulling at the skin causing puckering so i need an urgent referral. I cried all the way home and have been a mess ever since!

i rang the local appointments department at the hospital this morning and they confirmed i had an appointment next Thursday (which seems a lifetime away!). I asked to be put on the cancellations list which they did. In the meantime i booked a private appointment this afternoon (at an eye watering £700). The NHS hospital have literally just rang me and said someone has cancelled a 10am appointment tomorrow, do i want it??? (Who even cancels such an appointment)

Anyway, my point is i totally get your anxiety. I thought i would breeze in and out of the doctors with his usual "feels like another cyst but will refer you anyway". This has really knocked me sideways.

As someone said to me this morning though, GPs are just that - General Practitioners. "Jack of all trades, masters of none". That's why you get referred to specialists. Doctors have to be over cautious when it comes to breast lunps. Imagine the fall out if they didn't.

  • Awe thank you so much for replying.  I know exactly what you mean I was totally fine before I went but he caught me off guard when he said to take someone with me...that had me panicked...

I'm off to Turkey on Saturday so I am tying to put it to the back of my mind.  Fingers crossed there will be an appointment waiting for me when I come back home.
Good luck for your appointment and please let me know how you get on xx

  • I am off to Cyprus in 10 days for my brother's wedding. That's why I wanted to get sorted!

I'm sure we will both be fine. We both have history of this stuff. Likely to be the same.

Enjoy your holiday. I will update you. Let me know how you get on too x

  • I will do and enjoy your holiday and try not to stress too much x
