Cervical cancer questions please help me!

Hi, I'm 32years old, I have been on my period for 5weeks now, and it's clotty, I have an app to see my Dr tomorrow, as they want to see if it's endometriosis, and they want to do a smear test to see if there are any unusual cells,...I'm petrified, what symptoms did you have if any? (As I know that apparently you can go for years without symptoms) and what treatment did you have? What happened and if God forbid it is that, how did you cope and what did you do?

Thanks I hope you can help me

  • Dear Lula, Do not worry.  You have taken the first step  and are seeing a doctor.  I had cervical cancer when I was 42 years old.  I am now almost 81!

Endometriosis is notoriously difficult to have diagnosed.  I was lucky in a way.  Don't be alarmed - but a psychic (a very good one) told me years before  I would need to investigate it.  I had the op in 1984. A complete hysterectomy.  Things were a lot easier then  and the pandemic was unheard of and appointments were much easier to see your doctor.  I took myself off to a family planning clinic and was told there were 'abnormal cells'.  After that I saw my GP and the operation was arranged.

From there I had a procedure where a tiny hole is made near your belly button which I didn't find painful, but it left a tiny mark.   And that's  how I was diagnosed.  I took myself from where I lived in Essex to the hospital in London by train (now long since closed).

I did not have a supportive husband (just the opposite) and that's why I made the journey alone.

The hospital discovered I had 'chocolate' ovaries and also polycystic ovary syndrome, besides two "tumours".  The operation was a complete success - although it took a while, apparently.

On leaving the hospital I was told I would need to be on medication which was delivered through the skin - an  oestrogen 'patch' which I didn't find uncomfortable at all. I used it for a few years.

I wish you all the best at your appointment and hope that if you Do need an operation they will not make you wait too long.

  • Hello!

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer 7 years ago at the age of 36. My only symptom was 1 week before my period was due i had a day of heavy bleeding, like my period had started. It would then stop and my period would come as normal a week later. This went on for about 6 months.

I had a full hysterectomy and was considered cured. It hadn't spread to my lymph nodes so no radio or chemo needed. Even so, the consultants were very reassuring that Cervical cancer is VERY treatable. Good luck. I'm sure all will be fine x
