Confused, should I be pleased?

I found a small lump in my right breast near my armpit around 5 weeks ago. Had it seen by the GP and had my referral to the breast clinic.

The clinic was running really behind and had limited staff, when I got seen it all felt very rushed, I had to show the nurse where I was feeling something then she also felt it.

She said I need an ultrasound but they will contact me over the next two week to get something booked in, I thought these would be done in the one appointment and just feel its harder knowing they felt it too and I just have to look and a big x drawn on me ( which I have to keep drawing over until I have jy scan) does this sound like normal practice?

  • Most places are one stop so you normally get an US and any follow up tests on the same day. Sounds like they are running behind and will book you back in ASAP x

  • Hi HAymil

Thanks for your reply. They are behind I spoke to a lady who was being sent home as they cancelled her appointment due to being understaffed I'm lucky mine wasn't cancelled I think its just deflating as I had waited for this appointment hoping to have a better idea of things but just left me with more worry.

Hopefully it won't be too long until I'm back for my scan, xx

  • I feel your pain. I'm currently waiting for my breast appointment and am a absolute wreck with worry. I can't even begin to imagine going there and having to come back none the wiser and having to wait again!

Sending love and I hope you hear soon x

  • Hi Ladies,

It seems like there is a lot of waiting and uncertainty at the minute. I went to the GP a month ago with a breast mass, got referred to breast clinic (8 days later) and had a mammogram and ultrasound. This was nearly 3 weeks ago, was told I needed an ultrasound biopsy. He said there was a lump in the thickening and it was suspicious, but it was only small, we had found it early and that it hadn't spread to my lymph nodes. I thought I would have the biopsy in a couple of days and have it removed in a week or 2. Well I had the biopsy 8 days later and was expecting results with 7-10 days, but they hadn't come back in time for the MDT meeting (Wednesday afternoon) so they were expecting them for this week and I'm booked in on Friday morning to see the consultant and find out what is going to happen. It seems like the timelines have been a bit stretched. Fingers crossed you get your ultrasound soon. Xx

  • Sending you love and luck. Hopefully the thing they have found is nothing of concern now they've had a better look x

  • I rang for a update as I'd heard nothing. They said they will just have to fit me in when they can but no idea when that could be I didn't expect to have to continue with weeks of uncertainty after a 2 week urgent referral its actually going closer to 2 month already

  • Can you afford to go private?  There is such a long wait time for NHS at the moment

I've been waiting 5 weeks and appointment now on Thursday

  • I have actually looked into it, I live basically in the middle of nowhere so will have a big travel for private care but it's really making me think its the only way depending on the price of course. I dont have much but there's no cost you can put on your health really, I know others who have opted to go private. Crazy times really.

Our clinic is a one stop clinic but they have such a high demand atm they just can't see everyone. Xx
