Bilateral ovarian cystectomy

Hi,

I am due to have two large cysts removed next month and am waiting for the results from an mri last week. Does anyone know if its standard for them to also biopsy the cysts after removal? can't help but worry it could be something serious.

Thanks

  • I had my overies and cysts removed  by the gynae oncologist six months ago they were large complex cysts, during surgery they took multiple biopsies to the omentum, and surrounding areas the overies went for biopsies they usually examine anything that's removed to see if it's anythIng to worry about.  They also spent 4 1/2 hours removing extensive adhesions, and 5 days in hospital, my surgeon said most surgeons would have bailed out and left the adhesions but she persevered as she couldn't find the left overy laparoscopically and they had to open my abdomen. I'm glad l had an oncologist who deals with the difficult cases, and not a general gynaecology surgeon.  I didn't have the results until my follow up appointment.
I'm pleased to say all were benign it took longer to recover as a big operation, but lm so relieved that it's over.
l hope you have a successful outcome, take care
