Abnormal bleeding from vagina

Hi,

I was hoping someone may have had something similar and could tell me what they ended up doing next.

Over a year ago my periods changed slightly, I now have one day at the beginning which is a very heavy bleed. I have even had blood clots falling out of me one month (had two periods that month). This was in January. I went to see the GP about this and nothing was found.

I had a smear test end of 2020 which came back fine. In 2021 i noticed the bleeding during sex and then some random spotting after that. Before my period and after my period I also seem to have brown spotting (which I have put diwn to old blood). I then saw my GP who did an internal, sent me for bloods and did a swab. Nothing was found but I was referred to have an internal scan and colposcopy amd that all came back normal. So then that was that. Then I had the episode this year January with the two periods in one month and the clots.

I have still had bleeding on and off during sex and the spotting. But recently it seems like quite abit of bleeding during sex to the point I thought it may be my period coming early. But still no period (I'm not pregnant).

I have been to see my GP who had a look and said everything is fine and she can't see any issues or any polyps. She also said she cannot refer me as they won't see me again when I was there a year ago. But she also cannot tell me why the bleeding is occurring and basically just left it as that. She just said if the bleeding happens and you're not having intercourse or your period then come back.

Side note - I am 32, I am not on any contraception. I have had two children, first one was natural second one was c section. Youngest is coming up to three years old.

I have no idea what to do next, it's quite hard to think that I must now just accept that I bleed during sex and there is no reason for it.

if anyone has had anything simialr and has then gone on to find out what is causing it or where did you go for more help? Where there other questions you asked your GP?

thank you!

  • Hi I'm sorry you've been having these symptoms. It is always so worrying when something happens that's not normal for you. It is hard when you don't know what to do next.

I think you should continue to update your GP on symptoms. Maybe request to talk to a different doctor for a different opinion.

I'm 20 and recently started having abnormal bleeding but I'm not sexually active and haven't changed diet or anything so very confused.

I always had regular periods for 8 years. Last month, I started a week early, had a 21 day period and passed black/ dark red blood and was very heavy. It felt so sudden. It also started at my least stressful time as my summer holiday had started and I had a positive outcome from a traumatic incident. It would've made more sense to me if I had abnormal bleeding during the times of stress.

First, I called GP who was more concerned that I had been on the colorectal waiting list since April so he fast tracked that and didn't say anything about the periods. I was worried thinking 'what shall I do now?'

I passed large blood clots near the end so went to A&E. Blood, urine tests etc came normal. They booked an ultrasound which will be this Friday.

The bleeding stopped on 1st July and came back on 8th July. I called GP yesterday and she didn't seem concerned either. She booked another phone consultation for next month to update on my symptoms.

I feel good now knowing I'll have an ultrasound on Friday and will be talking to GP next month. I suggest just keep trying but I know it's hard. I feel like I'm bothering the GP because I just keep going to them with other problems aswell.
