Lump since 2018

Hi I've had a lump behind my ear sort of near my skull since 2018. It doesn't feel like a lymph node but my doctor said he thinks it is one and I've had no other symptoms at all. It never fully goes back down but it does swell and go back down to its usual size a couple of times a month. It feels hard to me but it's on a bony area so I'm not sure if this could be why? And I can feel like a pea sized circle thing in the centre of it that feels detached from the lump. Is this something to be concerned about? I always thought lymph nodes were soft and movable but this lump doesn't feel like one, it does feel a bit soft in the centre but the rest of the lump feels hard and bony. My doctor has examined it 3 times and each time he has put it down to a swollen lymph node but I've had no symptoms of being ill the majority of times when it's swelled (it swells maybe 3 or 4 times a month) it never grows any bigger when it swells either it's always pretty much the same size each time it swells and goes back down. Thank you

  • Hi isabella19,

It's good to hear you've had this checked out by the doctor. They will be the only one who can advise on this, so do try to take some reassurance from what they've said. If you remain concerned, speak to your doctor again to get the peace of mind you need. You also have the option of getting a second opinion if this is something you'd like to do.

    Wishing you all the best,
