Bleeding vaginally with bowel movement

Hi,

so as the title says I have been bleeding fresh red blood vaginally when having a bowel movement.

I'm 40 and my periods have been irregular for the past year, I've only had 1 cycle so far this year.

I have lots of 'discomfort' in my pelvic area, sort niggling pains, sore when I sometimes cough etc.

My doctor has been great, and I have had a smear but bled loads so she doesn't think it'll be viable.  She's also done blood tests for ovarian cancer marker and referred me on the 2 week cancer pathway.

The truth is I'm just scared.  I can't find my online about the type of bleeding I'm having and wanted to find out if others have had this, even if the outcome wasn't good.

Also if anyone knows what I'm to expect when I get my hospital appointment?
Just looking for anything really, any words of wisdom, peoples experiences...

thanks

  • Hello KatyBirdie and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I can imagine it must be such a stressful time for you and it's good that you have flagged this with your doctor and that they have done blood tests and referred you on the 2 week pathway.

It's normal to be scared as you are waiting to find out more about what is causing this bleeding. I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. Waiting for your appointment can be nerve-racking and there are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I remember seeing previous threads on the forum on this topic so I thought you might be interested in having a look at this thread for example and feel free to respond if you wish.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have had this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
