Worried I have oral cancer at 34

Hi all

I know I can't get diagnosed here but I'm hoping someone may have had similar symptoms as me who could help.

Im a 34 year old lady who I'd a regular smoker I noticed 3 weeks ago that the right side of my tongue felt like something was there when i checked I had a small sized white patch no lump there, when I felt it, it gave a weird taste (not blood) it doesn't bleed just feels weird.

I've been getting pains in my neck that come and go and my right ear doesn't feel right no pain just feels weird.

I have been to the doctors who have told me it's an ulcer and to give it 1 more week to see how it goes, I've booked a dentist appointment to.

I've convinced myself that it is cancer on the tongue and now I'm really scared.

I have 3 young children and don't want to make them worried.

Am I being silly and over thinking all of this

Thank you

  • Hello Smiler88

I'm sorry ot hear that you've recently had a health concern. You've done exactly the right thing in seeing your GP and it's good to hear that you also have a dental appointment arranged. Hopefully, the dentist will be able to give you some further reassurance. If however, this ulcer doesn't improve I'm sure that either the dentist or GP will refer you to a specialist if they feel it's appropriate.

It may be worth talking to your GP at your next appointment about your oral health and the impact that smoking is having on this as I note that you had some similar concerns last year. If you decide to stop smoking there's lots of support available and I'm sure that your GP will be happy to talk to you about the services available in your local area.

I do hope that things settle and improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
