Raised levels of CA 125 and bloating

Good morning everyone

hope everyone is ok

I went to the Doctors earlier this week with what I thought might be IBS, even then I thought I was being a fraud as I don't feel ill just bloating and lots of wind.

Doctor also thought IBS but did bloods to be sure. I got a phone call that day to say my CA 125 is raised (91) and could be ovarian cancer. I'm now waiting for a date for an ultrasound.

To say I'm not coping is an understatement. I'm in bits, thinking the absolute worse. I keep reading about it and I just can't see it being anything else. I'm hardly sleeping, I can't eat, I keep breaking down crying.

im 41 and a single mum to three young children. Im absolutely terrified.

sending love and strength to everyone

  • Hi. I'm going through similar myself at moment but I've had my scans and just been referred urgently to see gynaecologist. Got phone call today with appointment within 2 weeks. My latest level was 70 and scan showing something at bottom of uterus. GP thinking fibroid. I've been told if I need more scans or biopsy, I'll get them done on the day.

Did your GP give you any idea how long you'd need to wait for ultrasound? I know it's hard, but try to keep yourself busy. I've had myself in bits worrying about my situation, but for now I'm trying to stay positive. Hoping you get a date soon x

  • What were your symptoms of you don't mind me asking?

the GP said my scan has been requested as urgent so should be two weeks, hoping it's next week and the earlier the better.

I friend of mine who has battled cancer said "nothing has changed, you are still the same person it's just you had information you didn't have before and don't let that information destroy you" which really helped.

sending lots of love, let me know how your appointment goes! Fingers crossed for good news for us both xXx

  • You should get it within the two weeks then, fingers crossed.

My symptoms have been being severely bloated around tummy, sometimes it has been rock hard. Feeling of fullness, like my insides are being squashed if that makes sense. Very heavy painful periods, but I have been on two different pills for a few months now which have helped with this. Also an ongoing pain in lower right side. It comes and goes and is usually a dull ache, but occasional sharp pains. It never completely goes away.

I like what your friend told you, it's true when you think about it.

Please let me know how you get on and I'll be thinking about you xx

  • Hi my lovely

how are you? I've been given a scan appointment tomorrow, I'm so scared!

    xXx

  • Hi. I'm keeping myself busy, got my date to see consultant on 21st so not long to wait.

I'm pleased you've got scan appointment now. I know it's hard but try not to worry about it. Might be slight discomfort, but shouldn't cause you any major pain. Then you will probably get results within a week. I've got everything crossed for you and please let me know how it goes xxx

  • Thank you my lovely and you too!

Hope you get some good news on the 21st huni! xXx

  • Hi to both members on this thread.

I had to jump in as I am exactly the same.  I had bloating and pain in April 2021. Ended up in A&E.  Bloods were done and urine checked and as they came back clear I was sent home. GP's booked me for a scan.  This was done and all seemed to just go away as negative.  I still struggled with the pain and bloating and deciding it was more likely to be IBS I got buscopan and carried on.  Fast forward to May 2022 when the bloating and pain went up a scale again to the point I had to have time off work. Spoke to my GP and a new doctor suggested I have a physical exam at GP's, bloods again with some extras that hadn't been done and a scan. Scan got delayed 2 due to ill health.

Bloods came back and CA125 was 97 (somewhat out of the 0-35 range!) Scan on 7 July has shown a cyst on right ovary.  GP's said they would fast track me when I spoke to her 11 July and I've got an appointment on 15 July :( to say I am bricking it is an understatement.

I just wanted to share with someone who would understand my concerns and my symptoms! Its weird to try and explain that the dull ache is there nearly all the time but sometimes it goes off to another level.

Anyway, hope you don't mind me messaging.

Mostly I just want to say good luck to you both with appointments etc. And also - remember that a CA125 can also be raised for endometriosis, a pelvic infection, fibroids and your period.

    Take care xx

  • Hi

please keep in touch my lovely and let us know how you get on!

it's the worse time ever isn't it?! I'm not coping at all, thinking of looking into meditation or hypnotherapy as I'm in bits. The stress is also causing my stomach to be in bits but because that's the reason I first went to the doctors that's not helping my anxiety.

I had an internal and external ultrasound today but have to wait now got my results.

it helps to talk to people going through the same thing so thank you both!

my symptoms sound the same as yours, it's hard to explain but my stomach just feels delicate all the time with bloating and gas that's comes and goes.

thinking of you for Friday hun, hope it's just a cyst and nothing else.

sending lots of love to you both xXx

  • I have had similar problems last year l had a colonoscopy for bowel changes and left sided abdo pain. A nurse rang 6 days later and said that they were reffering me to gynaecology oncology due to ovarian cysts on both overies. I saw gynaecologist and had all the scans ect, followed by surgery 6 weeks later. Just before going down to theatre surgeon says they may find some adhesions! Well 4 1/2 hours later they said that they  had difficulty finding left overy due to extensive adhesions a simple day surgery became an unexpected 5 day stay in hospital. They took multiple biopsies and fortunately they were all benign. I am  over 65 so they removed the overies as complex, solid cysts can be precancerous.

l hope you have a similar outcome with benign results, ovarian cysts can become quite large due to fluid.  my daughter had one like that the size of a grapefruit removed while 15 weeks  pregnant with her son, It was removed in case it burst and became an emergency. There was a risk of miscarriage he was later born at 32 weeks.
    Do take care of yourself

  • Hi. I hope everything goes well for you on the 15th and please let us know. I have that dull ache too, very rarely goes away and some days it's so much worse, especially when on my period. The things us ladies go through :(

I'm at the point now though that I'm just used to the pain. I've been told that if I need further scans or a biopsy, I'll get them on the same day. I'm nervous about my appointment, but will also be relieved if something is found. It's not that I want anything to be wrong, but we know our bodies and something is not right.

Take care and catch up soon xx
