Raised ca125

I'm 34 and last month I had a ca125 level of 44. The other day I had a repeat blood test and my level had rose to 96. I had an ultra sound and nothing was found except fluid on the pouch of Douglas. I had initially requested the blood test due to lower stomach pains, hot sensations in my pelvic area and constipation. I am now worried sick because my levels have jumped so much within one month. I was on my period both times but after doing much research I don't believe menstruation can elevate ur levels that much.

has anybody else had levels this high and had them raise so quickly and it's been nothing sinister?

  • So sorry to hear you are going through this.

My situation is a little different as im waiting for my ultrasound.
I went to the Dr's with what I thought was IBS, had blood tests and had a phone call that day to say they were high at 91.

I just wanted to reach out as I'm going through something similar and I'm completely freaking out so I understand how you must be feeling right now.

Sending lots of love and strength xXx

  • I'm sorry to hear you are going through this too.

Can I ask, Are u similar in age to me? What are ur ibs symptoms? Iv always been told my symptoms were probably ibs too. Was u on ur period at the time of ur blood test?

90s are extremely high and nothing I'm reading is making me feel any better, because nothing seems to justify why it's so high without it being the dreaded C lurking somewhere. Have u read anything positive to explain such a high number?

I hope everything goes well with ur ultrasound. Sending my love and hugs X

  • I'm 41, the only thing I have is bloating and wind really.

My stomach also doesn't feel happy. I can't explain it any other way. I'm not in pain just a dull ache or maybe a bit of pressure. I can't describe it any other way.

I feel really well and I have no other symptoms. All my other bloods were fine.

I had just finished my period, it was a day or two after don't know how quick levels go down after. My periods are also normal, completely regular, just lighter than previously but I put that down to my age.

I know the feeling, I keep reading in the hope I'll read something that makes me feel better but it's the exact opposite it's just convincing me that it is cancer and I'm not coping very well with all this at the moment.

If you need to talk anytime please feel free to message me.

    Thinking of you xXxXx

  • Yeah my stomach feels just like that too, nothing really painful just sensations. My periods are normal too.

request a repeat bloody test for a time when u are not on ur period. I have another blood test next week, I'm praying it's gone right down and I can blame all this on my period !

I have no idea what it is. You may find that you have a benign cyst or fibroid which is harmless because they can cause elevated levels. Nothing like that was found on my scan though which makes me worry more about what it could be.
Keep my updated on how ur ultrasound goes, I really hope it's nothing horrible. X

  • Likewise, thinking of you and keeping everything crossed that we both have good news xXx

  • Hi. I'm sort of going through similar at moment. Last year my CA125 was 40 so had scan and it showed cyst and fibroid. Had repeat scan month or so later and cyst had gone and blood level dropped back to within normal range. Currently having issues... very heavy periods, swollen tummy and upper abdomen and pain in lower right side. Doctor wanted CA125 repeated and it's 70 now (I was on period at time of blood test, but doctor didn't think it would raise it that high). Had recent ultrasound, followed by CT scan. CT came back showing something at bottom of uterus and said she wanted scan passed to consultant for further advice. Phone call from GP yesterday to say urgent referral been requested and hospital called me this morning with appointment within next two weeks. I'm trying to stay positive but it's the waiting that gets to me. I've been told that I'll likely need repeat scans on the day and possibly a biopsy.

Have they suggested any more tests for you?

  • Sorry to hear you are going through this too.

did ur ultra sound not pick up anything? I'm currently waiting for my ct scan appointment to come through, I totally get that the waiting game is awful, I'm filled with anxiety I can't even enjoy my days.

  • Nothing obvious on ultrasound, so they wanted CT. It's the CT that has picked something up. I had call from GP saying consultant wants to see me within 2 weeks, then I got phone call next day giving me appointment. I'm trying not to worry too much, luckily I'm very busy at work next week or so, so don't have much time to fret. Hope you get your appointment through soon x

  • Hi both,

jusy to give you an update. I had my results of my latest ca125 and it has decreased from 96 to 42 in the space of 1 week! This time I wasn't on my period so I'm guessing my period had some input to having a high level. Yes it's stil above the normal range which is worrying but I'm so happy it didn't increase after my period. Im still awaiting a date for my ct scan!

has anyone else had an updates on their situation?
    x

  • Ahh that's good news that it's decreased, I hope you get CT soon.

My pain has been dreadful the last 2 days and feeling that I'm going to burst. I was given my urgent gynae appt via phone call last Friday and just received confirmation letter today. It says I'll likely need a hysteroscopy on the day, which I'll admit I'm nervous about. Roll on the 21st!

    Take care x
