Confused about mdt meeting

Hi again. I had a biopsy on my groin nearly 2 weeks ago. I when to my gp last week over concerns about the lump. I ask the doctor if she know anything regarding my biopsy results she saw on system its say appointment due on 4th July to discuss results in mdt meeting.  I asked today if they could ring me with a update on my case from mdt meeting to let me know what's going on. I get a call back to be told my results wasn't ready yet but my name got mentioned in meeting. I don't understand why would it go to a mdt meeting if results are not ready yet. Is this usually what happens? I might get results next week or it may go on for weeks

  • Hiya.

Unfortunately, not all pathology results are equal. What i mean by that is, some are done in batches, so maybe yours just missed the deadline. Some hospitals/site don't always have the capacity to deal with some pathology, so the longer wait. Sometimes pathology can be more of an involved process and what can appear as inconclusive in one lab, can sometimes be determined in another. There's a host of other reasons, but I don't think you've been forgotten about, but yeah, the waiting is the worst and to be told you'll get them on X day, then not can be demoralising to say the least.

  • Its really difficult waiting for results, they can take a while depending upon the type of biopsy taken different labs have different processes, As you are on the MDT radar your results will get the attention they need and then you will be given the results. At the hospital I worked in had weekly MDT meetings every Friday morning, many of the cases discussed were not cancer when discussed. but may be precancerous in appearance or have an unusual or difficult presentation. The multiple disciplinary team can offer a treatment plan involving more than one department this streamlines the care as when one area has completed their input another goes onto to give treatment without waiting for a referral as they are aware of the patients needs

l hope you have your results soon, try to keep busy.

  • Thanks for reply .

I was a bit frustrated yesterday when I wrote this post. I was told by my gp that results were going to sarcoma team to be discussed in next mdt meeting. I spoke to a lovely lady from the team yesterday before meeting she said she will let me know what's happening next after. It was same lady who said they brought my name up in meeting and they said results not ready yet. I just got all myself prepared good or bad for nearly a week to be told not ready yet. I totally understand they are other cases needs more attention. Just feel a bit deflated sorry
