Worried about tests

I am wondering what I should expect next week. I will be having an abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound.

I am mainly worried that it will be painful. I found it painful enough when the doctor was checking for lumps.

I'm trying to keep a clear mind about what could be found. Just hoping it won't be the worst case scenario.

  • Hi Amelia,

I can't help with the colonoscopy but I had a transvaginal ultrasound this week and I didn't experience any pain it just sometimes felt slightly uncomfortable so just try to stay relaxed and breathe through it and hopefully it will be ok for you too. It wasn't my first either, I had quite a few last year during my pregnancy but I've had a similar experience with all of them.

Do you mind me asking what your symptoms are to be having these? I've been having some abdominal pain and now I've found I have high platelets too so I'm feeling quite anxious at the moment about what might be going on.

  • Hi Lou,

Sorry that you're having abdominal pain and found out you have high platelets too. It must be a difficult time but I hope you get answers soon.

That sounds good that the ultrasound is just uncomfortable but not painful.

I've had blood in poo for 3 months. It was very alarming the first time it happened as my toilet paper was drenched in blood when I wiped and then I looked at the toilet bowl and it was filled with blood. I went to GP and they referred me to a colorectal specialist as my stool sample came abnormal of course.

My periods were normal until this month. I've just finished having a 21 day long and heavy, black period (I've had 4-7 day, light- medium, red periods for 8 years) . I went to A&E on the 15th day as I passed large blood clots.

I was referred to a gynaecologist who said I didn't fit with all the possible common causes as this is so sudden. She said I'm too young for the other causes but I'll have an ultrasound just incase. She gave tablets to stop the period.

All my blood tests during this time have been normal which I am really confused about.

I also haven't been in any pain or felt ill (thankfully) so this all doesn't feel real to me until I remember the times I've seen lots of blood.
