Swollen painful lymph glands in neck for over 6 weeks

I have had very painful swollen lymph glands for 6 weeks . Feeling fatigued, sore throat aching / stiff neck . It all started after a scratch on the roof of my mouth and progressed from there. I had a week off work as felt so I'll few weeks ago but went back to work. The symptoms persist and had a throat swab negative to bacteria . As in medical profession asked for EBV for Glandular Fever blood test . This came back as had but a while ago. After badgering my GP for 6 weeks got urgent ENT appointment . Today waited 1hr 1/2 to be seen as running late. Did not go into symptoms . Checked neck said no swelling, had scope said reflux . I'm on Omerazole and have no heart burn . Said take Gaviscon 4 times aday. Didn't listen to what I was saying. Said bloods normal which was taken way before these symptoms and for hormone check . Said positive EBV oh right he said , that was it !! He was running very late and rushing. No scan, No bloods . I think it's Glandular fever and slowly recovering. So painful around neck , coughing headaches . I said don't get tender armpits from reflux ?? Just looked at me like I was an idiot . I think I need to go private if doesn't settle. I can feel swollen glands under chin and so tender . I've given 37+ years as nurse and midwife and when I need answers just don't have the time for me

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, frankie1066cat.

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling poorly and feel overlooked by your medical team after so many years of being a nurse and midwife.

Hopefully, others who have had similar experiences will come along shortly to offer some insight and advice. Alternatively, if you feel like asking some questions to our team of nurses, they'd be happy to chat with you Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on this freephone 0808 800 4040.

Fingers crossed you get better soon, frankie1066cat, and that your symptoms mean nothing sinister.

    Best wishes,
