Ca125 levels raised

I've recently went to doctors with a very strange period. I had a baby 9 months ago and went on the pill. It wasn't agreeing with me so I came off it. The strange period was the first period since I stopped the pill. It was brown spotting for over a week then 3 days of heavy bleeding then totally stopped. I went to the doctor and she done tests one being ca125. She called me to say it was raised to 53 and I would need to go see her. Over the years I've had issues with heavy bleeding and always had irregular periods. I've been in and out of gnae with the issues. In 2020 I was reviewed in hospital and was told I had a endometrial polyp and left ovary looks polycystic in appearance. So they said they wanted to do a hystercopy. However, this was never done. This was in January 2020. I fell pregnant in December 2020. I went to doctors today for her to discuss the result however she just wasn't very helpful infact she was mute unless I spoke: but I did tell her that over past few days I'm getting a pain internally when I sit down. So she asked me to do urine sample which showed a kidney infection. She also performed my smear which was due. She said all looked fine however I had thrush but I was not aware of this.
I suffer from severe anxiety, I also have a child and trying to run a business. I'm stressed out and petrified. I do not have any typical cancer symptoms. Could it be possible that something else has raised this level? They told me it could be a 4 weeks wait to be seen. Im scared

  • Hi Sarah and welcome to our online community.

I'm sorry for the worry and stress this is causing at the moment. There are many other non-cancerous conditions, such as menstruation, pregnancy, ovarian cysts and pelvic inflammatory disease that can cause raised ca125 levels so try not to panic or think the worst if you can.

I know that's much easier said than done but many of our members have been in similar situations so you are not alone and hopefully some of them will stop by soon to offer you their support and advice.

If you feel it may help to talk things through with one of our nurses, then do give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and will do all they can to help.

We're thinking of you Sarah and will have our fingers crossed for good news.

    Kind regards,
