Can anyone help with advice please regarding lymph nodes?

Hi there, please can anyone give me advice?

I found enlarged lymph nodes in my groin a few weeks back, instantly went to GP he confirmed they are swollen in groin and also my armpit.

Was referred for X-ray, which was clear and bloods which were clear too. Iv had ultrasound of abdo and due internal pelvic ultrasound too this week.

My GP on phone today basically said well it's nothing to worry about and swollen lymph nodes are common. But for is does not feel normal iv never had it before have no underlying infection brought to my attention. Only other symptom is night sweats, I tried to push it further but feel they have written me off now. Is there anything else I can be pushing for? Thank you

  • It's great to hear the results of all the tests you've had so far have come back clear Katie.

As your GP has said, swollen lymph nodes are common. As you'll see here, there are some things you can do to help them improve but they will usually get better by themselves.

If you'd like to discuss this further with one of our nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    All the best,

  • Hi Katie,

Unfortunately no one here is in a position to overrule your doctor. If your doctor has said it's nothing to worry about and no further tests are needed, I would personally take that as good news and do your best to put it from your mind. I know it's concerning, but swollen lymph nodes are not uncommon.

I would go back to your GP if anything changes; if the way they feel changes, if they grow in size, or you find anymore. Otherwise they should go down on their own eventually.

Do you have allergies by the way? Hayfever can occasionally trigger swollen lymph nodes.

Best of luck and hope the swelling goes away soon!
