Need advice, I’m overwhelmed and have no one to talk to.

Hi all, thank you in advance for reading.

a bit of a history..

9 weeks ago, I had a total abdominal hysterectomy, all went well except my bowels decided to throw a tantrum. Ended up staying in hospital a few extra days while they waited for things to get moving again.

fast forward to 2 weeks ago, needed to go to the toilet urgently, and only blood and mucus was passed.
same happened again a few days later.
I contacted gyne thinking this was a a results of the issues I had post op, but they said no, and to contact my gp.

gp ordered 3 stools tests. Which have since come back with the following. Cultures/infections all negative. Calprotectin abnormal 608. Fit abnormal/positive 22.
I have intermittent lower left side pain, sometimes the upper stomach area as well, tired all the time, and a swollen lymph node in the left iliac nodes. So he's done a 2ww referal for suspected lower GI cancer.
I have been told that cancer and IBD is a possibility.

I suppose my reason for posting is, my husband is a "it will be nothing" personality, while I know that's his coping mechanism, I need people to be honest with me, what happens next? I had a phone call to say mdt we're meeting Wednesday morning (2 days) and then someone else will contact me, but they wouldn't elaborate futher

thank you again for reading. I feel like I need to prepare for what's coming and I have no idea what to expect xx

  • Don't assume the worst. Try to calm down and wait for the meeting with doctor. Prepare for all possibilities but don't let the doom and gloom take over. Until you know what you are dealing with, you simply can not make any conclusions.

Good luck and keep us posted!

  • Hello Spooks, welcome to our friendly forum.  We're all just regular people who have or have partners with cancer so no idea what you've said re the results!  However I have had a hysterectomy and 9 weeks is not long so you will be tired it's major surgery and can take up to a year to completely heal and feel back to normal.  The multi team meeting will discuss everything with regard to your results so no they won't tell you because they don't know themselves until each person in the meeting has had their say about which way forward they will go.  The waiting game is the worst and we all have been through it, the only positive side is that you will know soon what is going on.  Hoping all is OK for you and your husband when you find out from the phone call, men hate seeing their wives worried and try and brush it off, not helpful but there you go!  Best wishes, Carol

  • Thank you for replying..

My health is so bad, so I learnt ages ago to expect the worse so im prepared lol

i was 22 when I have my first tumour (in my leg) and it's been down hill ever since x

  • That's rough! Let's hope you get a break from it all with some positive news .

How old are you? 22 is so young! Was it malignant or benign?

  • Thank you so much for your reply. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one xx
