I'm nearly 64 and have just had a mammogram recall letter. The appointment is for next Wednesday but I'm not going to be here, when I called to rearrange they're closed for a training day and not open again until tomorrow. Guess what I'll be doing from 08.59!
Would I be mad to go to this on my own? They've said allow 2 - 4 hours and take a book. I went through this with my best friend exactly 3 years ago (to the week) and her outcome was not brilliant (biopsy, lumpectomy 10 days later, followed by daily radiotherapy) and she is having a follow up mammogram as I type. So I don't want to tell her as she'll be waiting for her own results. My daughter is about to go away on holiday.
They are the two people that I'd choose to take with me and I don't want to tell either of them, just yet.
I know that it's better to have someone with you if the news isn't good but I've always been better tackling these things on my own, then I don't have to deal with anyone else's emotions too. Am I being silly to go on my own and not tell anyone until afterwards when hopefully it'll all be okay?
