Referred to Breast clinic but confused about symptoms

Hi,

I'm 29 and have had armpit tenderness for a few weeks (about 5 weeks), the gp checked for lumps and couldn't feel anything concerning so said to give it a couple more weeks and see if the pain passes.
I had a follow up appointment this week and the pain hasn't passed but has actually spread to my boob now.
I can't quite pinpoint the pain, it's like a tenderness/bruised feeling but I have a burning feeling behind my nipple occasionally too. My other boob is fine.
I've been referred to the Breast clinic and have got an appointment for first week of July.

Has anyone else had this type of pain with no lump? If so, how did it work out for you?

The GP did say that cancer isn't usually painful so she's not massively concerned.
I am kind of worried that I'm wasting everyone's time as apart from the pain I don't have any lumps, change in skin etc.

Would love to hear any experiences,

Thank you!

  • Hello Birdie11

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing issues with your breast health recently. It's good to know that as things haven't resolved your GP has referred you to the breast clinic.

It may help you to know that the vast majority of people referred to breast clinics aren't diagnosed with cancer but the specialist you'll see in the clinic will be experienced in dealing with a multitude of other breast conditions as well.

Hopefully, at the appointment, the team will be able to give you some reassurance and answers about the cause of the pain that you're experiencing.

If you'd like to talk anything through with our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

I hope that things settle for you soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Birdie.  I have had breast cancer twice (still got it in fact) and on both occasions I had no pain at all.  In fact I didn't have any of the 'normal' symptoms for breast cancer.  The only change I noticed in myself is that I felt exhausted all the time, but as I am my husband's carer, I simply thought that this was the reason for my tiredness.  I know how worried you must be feeling, but there could be so many reasons for your boob hurting, best of luck, Violet, x
