Referred to hospital with suspection of soft tissue sarcoma

Hi,

I am new here, apologies if my question lands in the wrong place.

About a month ago i noticed a swelling on my forearm and at that time i assumed i must have sprained my wrist or it could be fluid retension. It's still isn't causing any discomfort or pain... but it definately has grown since first noticed. I went to my gp on 10th June who upon examination thought it did not look right and did routine bloodworks which showed an elevated levels of ESR and few other serum globulins. He said to me that it looks very concerning and ruled out lipoma.I then recieved a letter from the hospital i was in 2ww. My gp has asked me to get a scan done asap. Please can anyone help me understand what is soft tissue sarcoma in forearm.  Thank you.

  • Hello sk.22 and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

There is information on our  website on soft tissue sarcomas which I hope will explain to you in detail what soft tissue sarcomas are. You've done the right thing to go to the GP to get it checked out and it's good that they are being thorough and arranging this scan to be done very soon. I hope you won't have to wait too long for your appointment.

Even though the GP said it looked concerning, try not to worry too much at the moment and anticipate that it definitely is a soft tissue sarcoma as you will only know for sure what you are dealing with once you have gone through all the tests and got a definite diagnosis.

The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online while you are waiting. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. There are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have also been referred previously for a suspected soft tissue sarcoma and that they will be along soon to share their story and experience with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
