Abnormal CA-125 results but long wait for discussion.

Hey, I've never posted in a forum like this before but yesterday I recieved a call telling me my results were abnormal and that we would discuss them over the phone next week. Is it normal for such a long wait for a phonecall discussion? I've been stressed about this for weeks so I'm just uncertain about everything.

I've had constant (worsening) symptoms since late February, was diagnosed with gastritis (but didn't recover while on medicine for 2 months), IBS (but the medicine did nothing after 3 weeks) and after finally learning and passing on the information that a substantial amount of people on my dad's side had passed away thanks to different cancers (both of his parents, most of his uncles, etc) doctors suddenly wanted to do the CA-125 check.

I'm only 19 so I really just don't know what to expect. Any sort of guidance would help at this point.

  • Hello soapb3

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some ongoing health concerns and that your blood test results have come back with some abnormalities.

It's understandable that you're feeling worried but it may help to reassure you that there are many things that can cause a CA125 to be raised including endometriosis, ovarian cysts, menstrual cycle, and pregnancy. The fact that your GP is happy to wait until next week to discuss these results with you sounds positive although I understand that it doesn't help that you have to wait for that appointment.

I know that many people will understand how difficult this period of uncertainty and waiting can ve. Try to avoid searching online for information as this leave you feeling more anxious. Keeping busy can help to be a distraction and hopefully at the appointment next week the GP will be able to give you some answers and reassurance.

I hope things settle and improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
