2x 10cm ovarian cyst - next steps

Hi,

I wonder if anyone could advise me of their experience, I've had a vaginal scan/pelvic ultrasound and 2 10cm ovarian cysts have been found. They've put me in for an urgent 2 week referral at the gynocology department at the hospital but what happens next? I'm anxious for the removal to happen (as they have advised will be the case) but conscious there may be other steps prior? What happened in your experience?

I had a normal ca125 result.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello Yankeedoodle33 and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

It's reassuring news that you have had a normal CA125 result but as they have found these ovarian cysts, it sounds like this triggered the 2 week referral to the gynaecology department at the hospital. I hope you won't have to wait too long now for your appointment.

You can find out more about ovarian cysts and what to expect on this page from the NHS.  You will be in the best possible hands to discuss your treatment options when you see the gynaecologist who will be best placed to tell you what the next steps might be and whether you need any other tests or scans prior to the removal of the cysts. Their decision may be based on the size and appearance of your cysts for example and as they have your full medical notes and history, they will be best placed to tell you more about what to expect.

I hope that you will learn more from the experience of others on this forum who have been diagnosed with ovarian cysts before and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you and the different steps they themselves went through once they saw the gynaecologist.

Everything crossed for you that you get to see the specialist soon and that you are given all the answers to your questions and a treatment plan that will sort everything out for you.

    Best wishes,
