Possible cervical cancer symptoms

Hi, I hope it's ok me posting here. I'm quite worried. I'm 27 and due to being on the mini pill don't have periods, however since being on the mini pill have had sporadic light bleeding a few times a year (I've been on the mini pill for around 9 years and it's quite normal with my type of pill) however what has concerned me recently is I have had spotting after sex which is unusual.

It first happened last month, the morning after sex I had some blood when I wiped followed by 5 days of a proper period, which I haven't actually had a full period since starting the pill. It then happened again the other day, only this time immediately after sex I had almost period like stomach ache and then a few hours later went for a wee and wiped brown discharge and that was all. This went away and then the next day I started with cramps again and wiped some pink blood. Nothing since. Suffice to say I phoned a GP and they're going to get a nurse to examine me next week.

Im fairly concerned - it seems too much of a coincidence having the cramps and discharge after sex. It's worth noting as gross as it is I've always had smelly discharge, I've been tested for STIs multiple times over the years and all clear. I think this is more recurring BV that won't shift.

I'm 27 so had my first smear around two and a half years ago, I'm due my next in November this year. I also had the vaccine in school.

I have had spotting the morning after sex before but many many years ago in 2015 and 2016 but that was the morning after so I always just thought it was a coincidence.

Does this warrant being concerned? I'm now worried my first ever smear missed something!

Thank you x

  • Hello Beebee27,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

I can understand you may be concerned but please try not to worry. You've done the right thing in calling your GP and hopefully they can get the the bottom of things at your appointment this week. If you have any questions, it might help to write them down and take them with you. This page here has some really useful tips whether your waiting for an appointment or for results.

    I hope this is useful,

  • I had my examination today, the nurse was lovely but unfortunately said I'm unable to have a smear test (due my next in December) as it would be rejected for being too early which isn't ideal. The nurse took swabs and noted my cervix bled alot when touched which is unusual, but noted my cervix is smooth and she doesn't see anything of concern. I get my swab results in 2-3. Very worried. I'm happy to privately for a smear test however I'm sure I read I can't have a smear test for 3 months after swabs as there won't be enough cells or something along those lines. Is that correct? Thank you

  • [@Beebee27]‍

im having the exact same problems and I'm going to my gp for examination today! I'm 27, not on contraception, having all the same symptoms as you stated, stomach pains, bleeding after sex and inbetween periods and my smear isn't due till December. Iv been tested for STIs and all clear and always suffered with BV.

i don't suppose you've received any news from your swabs? X

  • Hi,

Oh I'm sorry to hear you're suffering the same. I will say my symptoms have eased and no longer having pelvic pain as such but still experiencing discharge but again that is quite normal for me. Haven't had sex since as I was in such pain afterwards I was too scared to until after tests. The doctor said 2-3 days so I'm going to ring them tomorrow and hopefully results are back, I'll be sure to post back when they do!

Was much said at your appointment? Hope you're ok I know it can be worrying!

  • Thank you for replying!

glad to here your symptoms have eased! Dr took swabs and did a examination she said my cervix looks ok and she said it was bleeding though. She said we're going to wait for results of the swabs and if it shows nothing then we will talk about having Pap smear and I'm currently waiting on ultrasound. Not sure if this is because I have PCOS too. I hope you get some answers soon!
this has been going on for me for 4 months spent more times spotting/bleeding than not!! Still having pain even tho bleeding has subsided! Hope your doing okay

  • Ah sounds really similar to me. I've had my blood results back which are all ok but still waiting on swab results. If all are normal I'm going to ask my doctor to send me for a smear or another test as I don't feel comfortable waiting until December.

Hope you're ok! Seems were very similar at the moment x

  • Hi just replying to let you know that my swabs came back clear and they're waiting on ultrasound and smear now, I hope your okay. Have you received anymore answers? X

  • Hello,

Sorry for the late reply. So in August I had an appt with a gynaecologist who do a bimanual and speculum exam which were both normal. Said she would send me for an abdominal ultrasound and see me in 3 months time.

3 months here we are and my appointment has been cancelled and low and behold the bleeding after sex has returned. So worried now.

My smear test is booked for this Wednesday and my GP has sent an expedite letter to my gynaecologist as he said I should have been offered a colposcopy. I'm really concerned now as this has been over 6 months. I should have pushed harder but you go with what the doctors say don't you.

    Have you had any results?

    X

  • Hello,

    Have you had any news?

Just wanted to update... I had my smear yesterday and the nurse said looks like I have an ectopy but is glad I'm seeing a gynaecologist as she's not a specialist.

Well I had my gynaecologist appointment today and safe to say I've been quite upset. The consultant was very calm and laid back and before examining me said he's certain it's hormonal and an ectopy but would examine me and burn away the ectopy. As he went to burn it off he stopped and said it's bleeding alot and due to this would biopsy. So I had the biopsy and then they burnt the ectopy off. I'm so very very worried it's cancer. The consultant said not to worry as he's not and if it is cancer they will treat it. Now a very long wait for my smear test results and biopsy
