Anxious about breast lump

Hi, I've found myself on these pages reading through the different experiences and I do find comfort that I'm not alone so thank you!
I'm very anxiously waiting on going to the breast clinic next Thursday after finding a small lump above my right nipple. They've said I've to possibly get a mammogram, ultrasound and or a biopsy but will decide on the day. Has anyone had these tests and been given an indication of the diagnosis on the day? I'm scared I go and I just get told to leave it longer to see if it goes away as this is what my doctor initially said. I got implants 4 years ago and I'm also scared these make the tests inaccurate and something is missed.

I'm 30 and my mum was diagnosed with stage 2A breast cancer when she was 43 and my dad and grandparents have all had different cancers. I know this doesn't mean I've got it but I can't help but thinking it's my turn. I think the worst thing is the not knowing. I go through spells of thinking ofcourse I'll be fine then next I'm convinced it's worst case scenario. I've been obsessively looking on google - I know this isn't a good idea but the temptation is too much.
Apart from my little lump which is about 1-2cm I've no other symptoms I feel well apart from the worry which makes me feel sick.

  • Hi!

Sorry to hear that you found a lump and are awaiting your breast clinic appointment. I hope you find some support and comfort from this forum - there are so many amazing people on hear who will be able to share their experiences.

My experience of breast clinic appointment which included mammogram and ultrasound was a good one (so much as these things can be) all the nurses radiographer etc were so kind and helpful. I didn't have a biopsy on the day but some people do. I went back for a biopsy a couple of weeks later. The examinations themselves are ok. Mammogram a bit uncomfortable but ultrasound was fine and even biopsy wasn't bad as they numb the area (I had stereotactic biopsy which is guided by the mammograms but I understand that ultrasound biopsies are quite straightforward).

The waiting is always the hardest and with your family history it's understandable that you are worried. There are many non-cancerous reasons people have lumps but it's better to be safe and get checked out.

Wishing you all the best and although Google is a bad idea we all do it so don't be too hard on yourself! X
