Worried it might be cancer!

Hello, I found that my right breast looked slightly odd last Sunday with a light pinkish mark running up to the nipple (albeit not a very long line) and what looked like two little bumps right next to the nipple on both sides. I went to see the doctor on Monday who took a look and prescribed me fusidic acid as she thought it was a breast infection. I don't mean to criticise for her professionalism but she did not examine around the breast and armpit area... After using the cream she prescribed, I found that mark was still there along with the breast feeling heavier and tender compared to the left. The pain has started to extend to the underarm and radiates around the side to the back behind my breast. I went back to the see the same doctor today and upon examining she found that I had swelling in my armpit which she think is a swollen lymph node due to infection.  She has now prescribed me oral antibiotics. I asked if it was anything to worry about, particularly because my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and my Nan passed away with breast cancer in 2008. She said it's unlikely as I'm so young, I'm 28 at the moment. She also said that as there is no lump as such, it won't be cancer! But I'm not convinced and feel dismissed. I'm extremely worried especially because of mum's diagnosis last year and have been reading all the chats on here trying to find someone that has experienced anything similar. If anyone has experienced anything similar, please do share your story.

  • Hello Akaa93

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with some concerns about your breast health at the moment. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious, particularly as both your Nan and Mum have had breast cancer in the past.

If you still have concerns or you're feeling worried in any way then please do get back in touch with your GP surgery. If you'd like to talk things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support that they can.

I hope you have some reassuring news soon.

    Best wishes,
