Biopsy results?!?

Hi,

I went to the doctors for a large lump underneath my nipple. They sent me straight to breast clinic, I had an ultra sound done and the doctor at the time it looks like a fibrodemona but it's looks to be a irregular shape. They took a biopsy and I've been waiting a couple weeks for the results until last week I recieved a hand written letter with an appointment card for next week. The consultant at the time said I would receive the results by post?

Im also a bit concerned that im very calm.

Does this indicate anything bad?

  • Hello Beck,

To answer your question, it doesn't indicate anything except that the consultant wishes to speak to you about something. There are conditions that need to be explained to you in person, might require further monitoring, that aren't the bad news you might be anticipating. Not everyone who gets a consultant appointment after a scan or biopsy is going to get bad news.

In 2009 I had an ultrasound for possible testicular cancer. After the scan, I was called back for an appointment with a consultant - I was terrified. However, the scan found nothing bad except for a varicocele vein that the doctor wanted to talk to me about in person to check that it wasn't causing any discomfort etc.

They're are also similar stories on this forum of people getting called back after a breast screening only to be told they have something benign.

I hope this gives you some reassurance - obviously you won't ultimately know for sure until you've spoken with the consultant, but best of luck and I hope everything goes OK for you.
