My Colonoscopy. Male 68.

Having had my colonoscopy my advice is.. Be positive... I wasn't and I worried myself quite a lot. However, looking back, now that I've had it done, the worst thing about it was the laxative.  Tasted ok at first of lemon but a litre gets too much. Took me 2 hours to drink it but that's also because I spent time on the bog...obviously!  I had an afternoon appointment so in the morning I was drinking the stuff at 6am but I have to say it didn't take as long.  The toilet ezpxperience wasn't too bad but very very frequent.

On the day I chose to have a sedative which was taken intravenously.  Before I knew it the camera was in and the images were on screen.  I had made up my mind up before I went in that I wouldn't watch and would concentrate on other things but I watched the whole thing.  There was no pain and I watched the surgeon remove 7 polyps.  It took 35 minutes but the time seemed to go quickly.  After the camera was out I had bad stomach ache but one ,one almighty long fart did the trick.  This was because air is pumped into the bowel during the surgery and they encourage you to fart. Then I went to the recovery room for a drink and a sandwich and it was all over.  Actually it was a far better experience than I had been imagining.  The nursing staff and surgeons were brilliant. Just don't worry like I did. It turned out to be an interesting experience.

  • Hello Steve and welcome to the forum.

I just came across your post and wanted to thank you for sharing this with us.

We have many members here who are waiting to have this done and are, understandably, a tad nervous about having this procedure, so I'm sure they will be very encouraged by your words and the experience you've had.

You're welcome to join in on other discussions you come across about this and wish you all the best with your results.

    All the best,
