Burning pain in armpit and shoulder blade, even down arm

For exactly 1 year, I've been plagued by this weird pain. It's burning rather than aching and is centred in the deepest part of my armpit and immediately under my shoulder blade.  It also travels down my arm to my fingers.

I recently had some standard blood tests, which was normal other than CRP of 9.25 indicating some inflammation (I don't feel ill).

I have had a clear mammogram and ultrasound  (10 months ago), rheumatologist did a physical exam last week and suggested rheumatoid arthritis,  but I don't see how that chimes with sore armpit.

I'm post menopause,  55 and in otherwise reasonably good shape.

I can't go on worrying like this it is ruining my otherwise lovely life.

Has anyone experienced this one sided armpit pain and bicep pain? Thank you

  • Hello Scottishmuppet

I'm sorry to hear that you're still dealing with this ongoing health concern. I can see from your previous posts that this has been going on for quite some time.

Whilst it's good to know that all the tests you've had haven't raised any immediate cause for concern it obviously doesn't resolve your problem so do keep in touch with your GP/Consultant. Hopefully, they will be able to get to the bottom of this problem and improve things for you.

I hope you have some answers soon.

    Best wishes,

  • I have had this for two years now and still I answer.  It consumes my thoughts everyday.  I have been seen at breast clinic 4 times, had two mammograms and two ultrasounds.  I have had an mri of my shoulder which showed tendinopathy.  Drs not concerned.  I have seen a rheumatologist who said no RA, but hyper mobility and poor posture.  Vascular surgeon said it's neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome- offered me surgery but it's quite traumatic and they have to remove part of a rib.
Your symptoms sound very much like mine ..... have you had any definitive answers.  The discomfort is always present and although I think it's in my breast, when I feel around, it doesn't actually feel tender at all.  I can't pinpoint the pain.  I don't know what to do next, my only real option is to speak to the surgeon and weigh up the pros and cons. I have had 2 blocks of physio - to no avail
