Smear and colposcopy scotland

I am in a state as I write this. I had my smear done and the results have came back with high risk HPV and cell changes.

Obviously  I am worried sick. I received a letter two days later booking me in for the following week, so Tuesday coming. I've been reading the internet (I know I shouldn't ) that there's a 2 week pathway. Have I been put on this, how would I know? I can't sleep or eat. I am terrified

  • Hello eb38qs

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling so anxious about your recent cervical screening results. We get many women posting on the forum who have the same concerns after being told they have HPV and cell changes.

It's standard practice for women who have HPV and cell changes to be referred to the hospital for a colposcopy so that the specialist can take a closer look at what's going on for you. We know that many women feel anxious about this but try to keep in mind that many women have this examination every day and aren't diagnosed with cervical cancer. There's lots of good information available on the Jo's Trust website that you might want to have a look at.

Alternatively, if you'd like to chat with one of our team of nurses for some advice and reassurance before Tuesday then you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they will be happy to give you some advice, information, and reassurance ahead of your appointment.

    Best wishes,
