Waiting for colposcopy stressed

Hi I’ve been on a roller coaster few weeks. Back and forth doctors with lower abdomen pain and frequent urination. Both times they said I had a water infection. The abdomen discomfort remained. Last week i started to see spotting first time so went back and they arranged a more detailed look similar to a smear. The nurse found that my cervix bled easily on touch and also it didn’t look like it should so now awaiting colposcopy and my thoughts are running away with me. So stressed and anxious.

  • Hello Shaz2825 and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am sorry to hear you have had such a tough few weeks and that you've had this discomfort for weeks. You did well to go back and have this spotting looked at. I hope that you won't need to wait too long for your colposcopy and that it will shed some light on what is going on. It's normal to be stressed and anxious as you are waiting to find out more. There is detailed information on our website on the colposcopy which will explain to you what to expect at your appointment.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. While you are waiting, there are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
