Nasoendoscopy - stressed

Hi Everyone

I've had a hoarse voice for 5 weeks now and a cough for longer. My GP has referred me for an urgent appointment to get a camera down my nose to look at my larynx.

Has anyone else had this done? If so, does the doctor let you know there and then on the day if they see anything sinister or do you have to wait for the results from the GP? My mum died 10 months ago and her cancer was found at the base of her tongue so I'm really worried.
would appreciate any replies. Thanks

  • Hello Koko29

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with an ongoing health concern at the moment. A nasendoscopy is part of a normal ENT examination. You can read more about the procedure on our website.

It's likely that the Consultant will be able to give you some information on the day but if further investigations are needed then you may have to wait for those to be arranged.

It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about things especially having lost your Mum to cancer. If you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support that they can ahead of your appointment.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you Jenn for your reply. I'll have a read at the link you sent me and keep you posted.

  • Hi KoKo,

I just had the endoscopy, I wasn't expecting it so was a little surprised when she told me she was going to do it. I'm glad it was sprung on me as I'm an over thinker!

It really wasn't bad at all. Uncomfortable and strange but not painful. Interesting to see your nose on tv too - went down to my voice box, fascinating really.

The consultant said she suspected cancer but I wasn't given any definitive answers.

Sorry to read about your mum, this must be especially tough for you.

good luck, keep me posted x

  • Thank you Pinkdogs_meow. It's a case of mind over matter. I gag doing a lateral flow test!!!!!

Sorry to hear that the consultant suspected cancer. What happens now? If you don't mind me asking what symptoms do you have?

Like you, I too am an over thinker.

  • She sent me for an emergency mri (next day) :confused:and I'm going to have the 'mass' removed and sent off for biopsy... I'm just sat awaiting a phone call to discuss what the MRI picked up. Nothing hopefully. I don't have any 'cancer' symptoms - just always suffer with terrible sinus infections and have always just been prescribed antibiotics ‍♀️ Fingers crossed for good news x

  • Such a worrying time for you. Hopefully you will hear from them soon. I will also keep my fingers crossed for you also x
