Anxiously waiting for diagnosis

I had abdominal bloating 4 weeks ago. It suddenly appeared and I thought it was just bloating at first. However it did not get any better. Just a sip of water made me feel that my stomach was going to explode. I was abroad then and went to A&e. Doctor did an ultrasound and said I had ascites. Flew back to UK, went straight to A&e. After waiting for 6hrs, the doctor said it was just a tummy bug and will resolve in 2 weeks. I went home but it didnt feel like tummy bug. I booked an urgent appt with GP. After examination, the Dr was concerned as I had very fast heartbeat and he referred me to the hospital straight away. Went to the hospital on the same day after seeing my GP. They took blood test and admitted me for 1 night. One of the Dr took out a fluid sample from my stomach for testing. He attempted to drain but wasnt successful. They also took a CT scan and chest xray. After the CT scan, the Dr told me that my right ovary is very enlarged and it could be cancer. I was very shocked and filled with mixed emotions at that time. I am 29 and hoping to have a baby someday but this just hit me too hard. I was discharged and booked back in 2 weeks for drainage and biopsy. The fluid sample didnot show anything sinister. I had drainage and biopsy done on Monday 30th May. Took more fluid samples for testing. Drained almost 10litre which was shocking. Also had my ultrasound and transvaginal scan 2 days ago. Again, they couldnt find anything major. Fluids have started to build up on my stomach again. MdT meeting on June 10th to discuss my case. I hope they will be able to diagnose and I cant wait to be treated. However, on the other hand I am very nervous and anxious on what the diagnosis will be.

  • Hi,

I hope you get a diagnosis and start treatment very soon. The good news is that you are being fast tracked and you went to see your GP as soon as you got symptoms. I have multiple ovarian cysts with one 10cm in size found on 19th May this year following a CT scan. My appointment with my consultant is 20th June. Like you I am worried, my stomach is very swollen also. I really emphathise with you. Good luck and I hope you get sorted soon.

     Thanks

  • Hello Donna

Thank you for your response. I have just been admitted to the hospital for another drainage as the consultant was worried about how quickly the fluids built up again. Hopefully they will find the source of the problem soon. I hope your consultant give you the best treatment plan and hope you get sorted soon. Goodluck to you too and keep staying positive.

    Love
