Large ovarian cyst

Hi everyone,

I had a CT scan and results on the 19/5/22 showing a 10cm cyst on left ovary and multiple cysts on right ovary. I was referred to a oncology gynaecology consultant who confirmed an MRI would be needed to rule out anything sinister, but I have been told that the MRI would take up to 6 weeks! I was told it would be red flagged but changed to urgent as there is not enough information to warrant a red flag referral. I have a very distended abdomen, pelvis pain and pressure. I called the oncology gynaecologist consultant secretary today and she confirm that the consultant will see me on the 20th June rather than wait on the MRI due to my symptoms, feel like I have to pester to get noticed. I am worried also but want this cyst removed asap as I feel self conscious and look 6 months pregnant. Anyone else going through anything similar or has been?

Many thanks & much appreciated

  • My ovarian cysts were found during a colonoscopy and l was referred to gynaecology oncology and seen in two weeks, l had more scans and was listed for surgery by the consultant during a telephone appointment. She was great and listed me for surgery which l had 8 weeks later.
I hope you have a similar experience and are listed soon to relieve your symptoms.
Mri scans can be expedited by the consultant if its still required, the consultant may be happy to proceed without one or an ultrasound instead.
    take care

  • Hi Susie,

glad to hear you got sorted. I am hoping that when the consultant sees me on the 20th I get the MRI sooner I am looking forward to getting rid of these cysts!

     Thanks
