Advice on biopsy and MRI results - two areas

Hello all,

I was hoping someone could give me a bit of advice.

I've had a womb biopsy a week ago for a growth and thick lining and also awaiting my MRI booked in for tomorrow for a mass on my ovary.

Could anyone tell me how long I will wait for results approximately. They are under the 2 ww.

So far I've not seen a specialist, but I'm guessing they are waiting to collate all results.

I'm trying not to worry but it's really playing on my mind.

Cancer 125 raised, but I have endometriosis so that could do it. They have also found an endometriona on my left ovary, the mass on the right and fibroids/thick lining/polyp on cervix (removed in the hystothingy biopsy), cervical erosion, cervical cysts and then the two growths in separate places.

It appears I can grow anything and everything.

Thank you.

  • Hi CatsAndDogs and welcome to the forum.

How long you wait for results can differ depending on what part of the country you're in and if a covid backlog is still being worked through, but if you speak with the hospital department carrying out your biopsy and MRI, they will be able to give you a time frame.

Given that you're under the 2 week wait, we'll have our fingers crossed you won't be waiting too long and the results bring good news when they come through, but our members know all too well how challenging this time can be so I'm sure some of them will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

If you'd like to discuss any of this with one of our cancer nurses, they're just a phone call away on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you.
It's going to an MDT meeting next Tuesday. They said they would call Tuesday afternoon with a care plan. The biopsy results are not in yet nor MRI (done yesterday) but they expect everything will be back for the MDT meeting.

Would they break bad news over the phone? I'll be on my own most likely then.

  • As every hospital has different procedures it's, unfortunately, not possible to say whether they would give bad news over the phone.

I know the next few days are going to be very challenging but I hope this article on how to cope with waiting for news will help you whilst you wait.

We'll be thinking of you on Tuesday CatsAndDogs and hope you receive good news.

  • Thank you.

Unfortunately my womb and cervix biopsies were not back in time for the MDT meeting, but despite the MRI for the ovarian mass I've no news and got to wait for next week's MDT. I'm very anxious. Do you know how long biopsies take? It's been 15 days but there was the jubilee during that time and another weekend.

    Any guidance would be great.

  • I'm sorry the biopsy results weren't back in time for the MDT meeting CatsAndDogs.

It's completely understandable, and natural, to be feeling anxious but hopefully you will be able to get some answers and peace of mind soon.

Waiting times for biopsy results in the NHS can vary so unfortunately I can't tell you how long they will take, but you could try giving the hospital a call to see what you can find out.

Fingers crossed they're available for next week's MDT meeting and good news comes your way.

    All the best,

  • Thank you.
I now have a face to face appointment for Monday. All results are in and finally I will get some answers.
