Hi,
I went to A&E in March with extreme abdominal pain and the doctor said he suspected gallstones. I was given an ultrasound the next day which confirmed I had gallstones. The registrar I spoke to said my "story" didn't fit gallstones and he wanted to do a ct scan with contrast. I had the scan and he then called me in to say it was a textbook case of an ulcer, my stomach was severely inflamed and he prescribed lansoprazole. He said I would have an endoscopy in 6weeks to confirm the inflammation had gone down and to take a biopsy to test for h pylori.
The medication seemed to work nicely and my pain dissipated.
On the 11th May I had my endoscopy and they found a sliding hiatus hernia and an antral submucosal lesion which they took biopsies from.
I received a letter from the hospital on the 25th May saying that the ct showed thickening which was confirmed by the gastroscopy and the biopsy showed nothing to worry about. I then followed up with the consultant (who I've actually never spoken to by the way) but I followed up with her secretary to query my meds and whether I needed to continue with them. The secretary said the MDT had referred my case to another hospital for a second opinion but couldn't tell me why.
At this point I go into a panic spiral and get put back on anxiety meds.
My gp says they have a letter from the MDT which they emailed me. The letter says gastric biopsies showed no dysplasia or malignancy and the ct showed a 1.6cm intramural lesion, likely GIST. So I need to go for an ultrasound for further characterization.
How can it go from being OK one moment to not the next? Why was gist never mentioned to me from the beginning?
Has anyone been through similar? I can't see that it'll be anything but cancer now and I'm just lost. I've left multiple messages for my consultant and I'm always told she's too busy.
The other hospital said the wait time for an eus is 2-4 weeks, then two weeks without meds and then 3 weeks if there's another biopsy and I'm really not coping and Noone is helping me
