Symptom worries

Hi I'm Jake im 31, in October 2021 I noticed my left tonsil had swollen up I took 2 courses of antibiotics but hasn't cleared it, I haven't worried about it up until recently, the last month or so my throat has started becoming saw and swallowing isn't as easy as it should be, coughing more and a few times recently I've noticed blood in my saliva, the thought of ot may be cancer came when I noticed swallowing wasn't as easy, I remembered an old work college had similar symptoms and he had passed of throat cancer, and more recently my father has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, my fears of it being a cancer have grown. Unfortunately I'm one of those people who avoid doctors and hospitals, the I'll be ok attitude, and don't like wasting anyones time. With the symptoms I have should I be worrying? Or am I just being silly I'm really not sure.

note: I've smoked since I was 15 and have heavily smoked for the last 2 and half years.

any advice/help would be great.  Thank you!

  • Hello Jake23,

If you have symptoms that you're concerned about, an important first step is to speak to a doctor. You definitely won't be wasting anyone's time and they will be able to advise and talk you through the possible next steps. When you are worried that you may have cancer, it can be tempting to look for answers online, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. And the only person best to help is your doctor.

    I hope this is helpful,
