Concerned about a mole....

Hi, I went to my gp on 26th May as I had noticed changes to a mole on my back. It had started to feel crusty & it had also changed colour. She took photos using a dermatoscope & took measurements etc. She told me there were some clear red flags even without the magnified photos, but that on the photos you could clearly see at least 4 colours within it & with the change in colour & texture & it's size I was told I would be referred as an an urgent 2 week referral. Within 4 days of seeing the gp I noticed it had changed colour more.

I then phoned the number I was given & asked about my referral & was told there were no spaces in the clinic but that I would be seen before 10th June. I messaged a friend my concerns & got myself extremely worked up & anxious...Later that day I received a phone call - they said they were a dermatologist & had looked at the photos & she couldn't see any issues.... I am a worrier & I suffer with anxiety - can they really tell from the photos & not even have to physically see the mole?

  • Hi Laura_83,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm not sure if you still have an appointment scheduled with the clinic, but if not and you feel concerned or confused about what you've been told, especially as it contradicts what the GP said a little, then give your doctor a call and talk through your concerns.

You may find it helpful to speak to one of our nurses about this - if you'd like to do this then you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi! I'm going through the same thing at the minute. Have a mole with notches and black in the middle that is painful. I received an appointment with the dermatologist who looked at it through a dermoscope and said there was nothing wrong. However im still extremely anxious about the mole as it feels like raw skin and it starting to itch. I hope you get your anxieties resolved! It's reassuring at least to know others are having the same anxieties as myself
