Feeling of something in throat on one side

I am 27, an ex smoker (mainly teenage years, completely stopped around 5 years ago, minus a couple socially), had a baby Nov 2020 and March 2022. Have Crohns disease and on immune suppressants.

When i was around 36 weeks pregnant (Feb 2022) i had my 4th covid vaccine and generally a stressful few weeks. I then all of a sudden  developed a feeling on what i would say was the left side of my tongue like food kept getting caught and i was constantly moving my tongue around to get rid of it but it didn't relieve it, this then went away as quickly as it appeared at some point. I then had the same feeling on the right which then seemed to just disappear again.

Jump to around 5/6 weeks postpartum and i had a heavy night out for a birthday (probably way sooner than i should have it really messed me up) and a heavy 1st period, the feeling on the side of my mouth/tongue appeared again on the right. I have health anxiety and this always gets worse postnatally so i was prodded and poking my throat alot. I generally sleep on my right most nights & did throughout pregnancy as my left hip was bad, so not sure if that would have anything to do with it....

i had a dentist appt recently and she said my mouth looked fine just slightly inflamed tonsils. I saw a GP and said i had a bit of a sore throat, i said about this feeling on my right side, couldnt quite tell if it was my throat or tongue and she checked in my mouth and said my left tonsil looked bigger than my right - which completely threw me as the right side felt the issue. I then noticed some tonsil stones in my left tonsil recently but the problems i can feel are on my right? The GP said my glands were swollen then i went back 2 weeks later and she said they'd gone down. I have had random on and off twinges in both ears for a week or so but they seem to have subsided for now. I've also had loads of bloods done and they were the best i've had in years...

When i bend my head back and turn my head side to side it feels like something is stuck on the right side of my throat. I want to say some days it's more noticeable than others when i swallow. When i swallow food it doesn't feel stuck as such but like there is something going on with the right side or that its a bit aggravated.

I'm petrified of this being something sinister, the GP doesnt think so and has referred me to ENT but theres a 4 month wait as nothing else is pointing to it being sinister, but what if it is?

My rational mind says it could be an ulcer or something in my throat from being so tired and run down from having 2 under 2 and a heavy night but i struggle with health anxiety anyway so having real physical symptoms is so difficult for me to ignore.

i am searching forums alot to find peace and someone else having something similar that didn't end badly. I don't want to leave my two small babies behind :(

  • Hi worriedmummy100,

I can understand this causing some worries. Try if you can to take some reassurance from what the doctors have said so far. I know it's never easy when there's a long wait for the appointment, but it's good that the doctor didn't seem too concerned. It's good also that you have the referral in place as, while it's a bit of a wait, it will mean you get the answers you need before too long.

In the meantime try to take things a day at a time and try to keep your mind off it. I know this can be easier said than done. Searching online can be helpful but equally it can also increase worries, so maybe ease off this a little too.

    Wishing you all the best,
