One week post colonoscopy and gastroscopy advice

Hi Folks,

I had a colonoscopy and gastroscopy 1 week ago. I was fully sedated so no idea what happened when they were looking around in there. A total of 15 biopsies were taken. I'm now on day 7 and I still feel sore and bruised. I also struggle to sleep because I'm uncomfortable on either side so I am sleeping on my back though it also aches a bit in that position too. Is this normal?

When should I worry?

Im pooping fine and able to eat, I just have pain across the front of my tummy, not acute but if I run my hand over it or wear tight pants it hurts. I also have bloating. No blood, no fever. Just a very achey and sore tummy area.

Has this happened to anyone else? Could it still be trapped wind or something? Any solutions welcome!

  • Hello,

I have had multiple colonoscopies and gastroscopes due to a genetic disorder, and didn't have issues like you describe.  It's probably best to call the department that seen you and ask for advice.

it should not be gas after a week.  Although if it is stomach ulcers they would have spotted that at the time and gave you medication.

Best of luck with your results, my multiple biopsies have come back ok, so try not to worry

  • Thanks Lisa!

I'm seeing the surgeon for a follow up on Monday and will raise it then. It's so strange because in the morning the pain and soreness is less. It's like in the afternoon/at night that the pain happens more. Makes no sense sigh.
