Abnormal smear following symptoms

Hi there, I recently had a leep procedure done following an abnormal smear which found precancerous cells severe & high risk HPV. I have experienced heavy bleeding and a lot more pain prior to my smear. I asked to be seen for my smear earlier but sadly got a no. Now I have had the leep I sit here waiting to find out if the cells removed relate to cervical cancer. The doctors sound all reassuring when you sit in their office as the patient, but I felt a bit too intimidated to tell them every detail of my symptoms and how in recent times I am finding it hard to eat. Little appetite, feeling full mid way through eating, bloated, shooting pains. Nausea. Fatigue. I am doing my best to eat as I know it will harm me in the long term if I do not force feed although it is not pleasurable. I just wondered if anyone else felt that although the doctors may be saying cervical cancer is unlikely, whether they will do the right checks and take me seriously enough to detect any possible signs of an issue. I believe they will be updating me with results but is it just a one test procedure following leep of the abnormal cells? Should I be asking for further investigations? Blood work? A while ago my bloods showed raised white blood cells but the note from the results said no action. Is that something to get retested again? Thanks for listening.

  • Hello DritersWream,

It's important that to speak about all your symptoms and go through any questions you have with your doctor. I can understand that you may feel nervous about that, but they are there to help you so being open helps them have a better understanding of what's going on. At your next appointment, it might help to write down your questions and take them with you so you feel more confident. There is also some information about abnormal cells here.

    I hope this helps,
