Added worries- short lived relief!

Hi,

I posted a few weeks ago of my fear about symptoms and an upcoming Endoscopy and Colonoscopy.

I had both earlier this week and I was told that everything appeared fine apart from gastritis in stomach (biopsy taken) and sigmoid diverticulosis

I also had a subsequent CT scan on abdomen and pelvis that same afternoon but I have heard nothing on the results of that.

I am just after receiving a call from the hospital saying that consultant has referred me for a barium swallow and did I wish to book it.

Now I am really scared- Why would he have done this? I thought the gastroscopy would have been more accurate than a barium swallow? Or would it be because he saw something else on the CT scan?

I feel so so scared now (the relief was very short lived!)

I would be so grateful if anyone has any info or insight into this.

Thank you,

FeeD

  • Hello FeeD and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

It sounds like you are going through a stressful time having all these tests and I hope that you will receive the results of your CT scan very soon. I am not sure why the consultant has referred you for a barium swallow but it's good that they are being thorough and it sounds like you are in good hands and that you will receive a definite diagnosis soon. There is information on our website on the barium swallow which I hope you will find helpful. Hopefully you will hear from others who have had these tests before and they will be along shortly to share their insights and experience with you.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Different tests highlight different parts of us in different ways so they often ask for more than one test on an area .  I had a colonoscopy that led to ct, mri, and ultrasounds on my abdomen to see if my ovarian cysts were still the same size.

l hope you are given your results soon so you know what is going on.

waiting is not easy but you could ring the colorectal nurses for advice they are up to date on treatments. They can also let you know the timeframe to expect from barium swallow to results.
take care and ignore Google as it only gives worst cases not the good outcomes
