Biopsy on sole of foot

Hi everyone,

I went to the Drs Last monday for a suspicious looking new mole on the sole of my foot, got referred on the 2 week pathway and was seen by the dermatologist yesterday who says he wants to remove it. He said he can usually do it there, but because of where it is, he needs a plastic surgeon to do it so I am expecting an appointment through in the next few weeks.

I am really just looking for someone with experience of this? How bad does it hurt? I am such a wimp when it comes to needles and pain. Also, if a plastic surgeon needs to do it, what kind of biopsy will they do?

Thanks and sorry for the Ramble!

  • Hello Sian and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry about the mole you've discovered on your foot. It's always a worry when something new and suspicious looking appears but hopefully the results from the biopsy will show it is no cause for concern.

If you use the 'search forum' option in the purple bar above you should be able to find other discussions that members have made about this procedure, but hopefully some of our members will see your post and reply to you here as well.

We have some general information about an excision biopsy on our website but if you'd like to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses, they're just a phone call away on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday (except bank holidays) between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I know that nothing I can say can take the worry away but I hope it helps to know that we're here for you and will support you every step of the way.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Steph, thank you for replying!!

I have my biopsy planned for the 7th July and I am SO NERVOUS for it, I think where I have waited so long (Dr is very unhappy as wanted it removed within 2 weeks!) I have become more and more anxious over it. It also seems to have got darker and the borders more irregular.

Trying not to think about it too much but still incredibly worried about how much a needle in the foot will hurt!

    Thanks,

    Sian
