MRI waiting time

My husband had a nasendoscopy 2 days ago which located an unexpected tumour. He was told he would be referred for a biopsy and MRI. He has just been told his MRI is almost 2 weeks away. Is it normal for wait time to be that long? He's beside himself already, as am I. I can't imagine having to wait that long for the scan, then await the results . If it was cancer is there not chance delaying the scan would give it time to spread?

  • Hello Pepperpots

I know how difficult it can be to wait for appointments. It's natural to be concerned about what may or may not happen during the time waiting for the tests and then results.

Try to keep thinking positively. It's fairly standard for people to wait a couple of weeks for these kinds of investigations even after a Consultant has requested them. What you could do, if your husband is able to attend at short notice, is let the department know this in case any cancellations crop up. It may be that he's able to get an appointment sooner.

I'd suggest you give our team of nurses a call to talk things through with them. I'm sure they'll be able to offer you both some reassurance and support to help whilst you wait.

Keep in touch and let us know how you're both coping.

    Best wishes,

  • It maybe the next clinic for that dr so it's asap. The clinics are often in cycles giving each specialist a clinic. Not always weekly. I hope all goes well
