Negative HPV but cervical cancer symptoms

Hi, I'm just looking for some advice.

For quite a long time now, I've had persistent pelvic pain, lower back pain, persistent yellowish/brownish discharge (every day), bleeding after sex (every single time), pain during sex (sometimes) and random spotting between periods.

I contacted the GP a while ago and was referred to gynae, who just shrugged me off and discharged me with no more than a quick examination. I went back to the GP recently who ordered swabs and a smear test. Both have come back clear, negative for STIs and HPV. As the smear test came back as HPV negative, they did not examine for any cell changes.

I'm worried because these symptoms are not normal but no one has looked at the cells on my cervix. I've contacted my GP again but I don't think they're taking me seriously.

  • Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing these difficulties. You've done the right thing by getting it checked out, and hopefully you can take some reassurance from the results so far.

If your symptoms persist and you remain concerned, the only thing to do is to speak to the GP again and be sure to talk through all your questions and concerns, and get the answers you need.

If you feel you would like to see a different doctor, you can of course also ask for a second opinion.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
