Waiting for news after suspected stomach GIST. How long?

Hi everyone.

I was diagnosed with a suspected stomach gist about a month ago after a bleed.  I had emergency treatment and was discharged with the advice that I would have surgery.

As the hospital that I received treatment in was not local, I was referred to a more local trust on discharge. The referral notes were received by my new hospital over a week ago and there has been an MDT meeting a week ago.  The thing is though that no-one has contacted me to tell me what is happening. How long does this normally take? I just want to know what the plan is.

  • Hi Nelliejay and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear no-one has been in touch with you yet. Hopefully they'll be getting in contact with you soon but if you're worried, there's no harm in trying to chase this up and get an update.

Hopefully some of our members will let you know about their experiences soon, but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses whilst you wait, then do give them a call. They are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope you're able to find out what the plan is soon Nelliejay.

    All the best,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderaotr
