Bluish grey lump on the tip of tongue...

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone had ever had a blue bump on the tip of their tongue. I first noticed a blue mark on my tongue about 8 months ago, but I don't recall there being a lump, and it hasn't really caused me any inconvenience untill recently, when I woke up and felt what felt like a cold, tingling ulcer on the tip of my tongue, which isn't painful as such but I can feel it and it is more annoying than painful. I've seen my doctor and dentist, and my doctor has made  a two-week referral. I'm incredibly anxious right now as i do have a history of head and neck cancer in my family. Both my Dad and Grandad have sadly passed from this so the thought of having it seems to be dominating my life; I'm continuously googling for answers, which is making me feel a hundred times worse. May anyone offer any light on whether you've had a similar experience and what I can expect from my referral appointment?

Thanks,

B xx

  • Hi Sammycub,

I'm sorry to hear of your worries - I know it's not easy dealing with uncertainty and waiting for appointments. You've done all the right things in terms of getting this checked out, and the referral, while worrying, will mean you should get some answers before too long.

It can be easier said than done but try not to assume anything at this point. At your referral I expect they'll take a look and potentially do any tests they feel are necessary to get the answers. While you wait for the appointment, take things one day at a time and if possible keep busy to help distract yourself from the worries.

Also it's best to avoid Googling as it can't give you any answers and it only tends to increase worries.

I hope it's not too long to wait for your appointment.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
